    THE EXPERIMENTAL EXHIBITION – SPACE – INSTALLATION ‘THE SOFT DARKNESS’, LCCA OFFICE GALERY, RIGA, 20.11. - 20.12.15.

    ‘THE SOFT DARKNESS’ HAS BEEN ENVISAGED AS A KINAESTHETIC ART EXPERIENCE, BRINGING TOGETHER ALL AVAILABLE SENSES WHILE SYNTHESISING NEW FEELINGS AND INFLUENCING THE AUDIENCE WITH VISUAL AND AURAL, AS WELL AS TACTILE STIMULI, SUCH AS THE SENSE OF TOUCH, CHANGE OF TEMPERATURE AND AN ILLUSORY EXPANSION OF THE DIMENSIONS OF REALITY THAT PERSUADE THE VIEWER TO SWITCH FROM ‘I KNOW’ TO ‘I CAN ACTUALLY FEEL THIS’. THUS, WHILST REACTING TO THE AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND SUBSTITUTING ANY GAPS WITH WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN PERCEIVED, THE VIEWER’S IMAGINATION BEGINS TO CREATE A NEW EXHIBITION SPACE, WHICH QUITE POSSIBLY IS MUCH LARGER OR IN THE CONTRARY – MUCH SMALLER THAN THE ACTUAL SPACE. THE KNOWLEDGE OF LEARNED PROPORTIONS DISAPPEARS AND BECOMES REPLACED WITH A NEW AWARENESS OF ONE’S PERSONAL DIMENSIONS IN THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT.

    IN THIS EXHIBITION GUNDEGA CONTINUES HER ARTISTIC EXPLORATION OF THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE INDIVIDUAL AND ITS SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT, SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN A CONTINUOUS THEME IN HER WORK SINCE THE SOLO SHOW ‘I’M IN’ AT THE GALLERY ZIEMA (GALLERY WINTER) (2013).

    instalācija - telpa „mīkstā tumsa” iecerēts kā kinestētisks, maņas apvienojošs un jaunas sajūtas sintezējošs mākslas pārdzīvojums. vēlos radīt telpu – mākslas darbu, kas skatītāju ietekmētu ne vien ar vizuālajiem un skaņas kairinātājiem, bet arī taktīli – ar pieskārienu, temperatūras maiņām, iluzoru realitātes dimensiju paplašinājumu. tā būtu zāle, kurā valda „mīksta tumsa”, viss visapkārt ir samtaini tumšs, vien vietām vāji saskatāmi, ar perifēro redzi nojaušami gaismas spīdumi un uzliesmojumi. tumsa neļauj nojaust reālā telpas robežas, gaismas blāzmu punkti konstruē jaunas dimensijas. paralēli vājajiem vizuālajiem kairinājumiem, skatītājs izstādi uztver arī taktīli – tumsā nesaskatāmas, bet sajūtamas ir dažādas virsmas faktūras, kas neļauj precīzi nojaust izstāžu zāles robežas. vienlaicīgi taustot, skatītājs/sajutējs uztver arī temperatūras izmaiņas dažādās telpas vietās, kas vēl vairāk pārveido apkārtējās vides tēlu. vietām apkārtējas plaknes ir vēsas, vietām tās ir siltas.
    reaģējot uz pieejamo informāciju, aizpildot trūkstošo ar saņemto, skatītājs savā apziņā sāk būvēt jaunu izstādes telpu, kura, iespējams, ir daudz plašāka, vai tieši otrādi – sīkāka. zūd iemācīto proporciju apziņa un mainās sajūtas par savu izmēru apkārtējā vidē.
    tad, kad skatītājs ir apguvis, sajutis izstādes „ekspozīciju”, tam tiek piedāvāts „saldais ēdiens” – iespēja doties augšup un nonākt uz ēkas jumta balkoniņa, no kurienes var redzēt neierobežotu debesjumu un skatu pāri jumtiem. skatītājs acumirklīgi no tumšās, siltās, noslēgtās izstādes telpas, tiek pārvietos citā – nesalīdzināmi plašākā, milzīgā atmosfēras telpā. ja iepriekš viņš pats savā prātā noteica apkārtējās dimensijas, tad tagad sevi jāiemēro jau noteiktā, neaptveramā plašumā. šis kontrasts varētu radīt iespaidīgu sevis apzināšanās pārdzīvojumu.

    „mīkstā tumsa” vienlaicīgi ir turpinājums manam mākslas pētījumam par indivīda un apkārtējās telpas fiziskajām un mentālajām attiecībām, ko praksē veicu savā personālizstādē „i’m in.” galerijā „ziema” (2013.). tobrīd mani interesēja cilvēka un telpas fiziskā proporciju mijējdarbība, ko izspēlēju dažādos modeļos pretnostādot skatītāju-intalāciju-izstādes telpu.
    šajā izstādē „mīkstā tumsa” vēlos pievērsties indivīda iekšējai telpas izjūtai un iespējai to iluzori, bet reizē reāli paplašināt, samazināt, ar to manipulēt.
